About Carolina

Originally from Colombia, Carolina is a filmmaker working between Bristol, London and Colombia. She studied philosophy in Colombia and has an MA in filmmaking from the London Film School in London.

Her films have gained awards, such as the Best of British at Encounters film festival and Best film at Concorto film festival. Carolina’s work has travelled to prestigious film festivals, including Palms Springs and Aesthetica.

Carolina’s work has focused on depicting female characters at different stages of life. Navigating societal expectations, personal flaws and moral decisions, she aspires to capture the specific complexity of these moments with a unique perspective.

Her first feature film set in Bogota, Colombia is in development and has recently been pre-selected for the Development Track at Sundance 2023. The project has previously received the Early Development Fund from the BFI.

In 2021, Carolina was awarded the short film fund from the BFI to direct, Sweet Little Despair. The short film has picked up the South West award at Encounters film festival 2022.

Sweet Little Despair premiered at Underwire Film festival and has gone to Oscar and Bafta qualifying festivals, including Durban, La Femme, Bolton and Norwich film festivals.

In 2015 Carolina and her partner funded Picture Imperfect, where she has worked as director and editor. The company develops corporate content, music videos, short films and documentaries.
